How to Build a Paver Path

Take stock of your project area and the paver size, type and quantities you’ll need to complete your path. The instructions here are for laying a path 20′ long and 3′ wide, but can be easily scaled up or down depending on your space. If you know the length and width of the path you’re creating, finding the square footage is a simple matter of multiplying the length by the width—in this case, 20′ long by 3′ wide, giving us a total area of 60 square feet.

Grow Squash, Cucumbers and Melons Vertically

If you are planning to plant cucumbers, melons, or squash in your vegetable garden this year, think vertically!

The main thing you want avoid are any varieties that are labeled or marked “Bush Variety” because those won’t climb properly.

Look for a “Vining Variety” because you’ll want to make sure it can climb your trellis, stake, or netting properly.

Here are some standard varieties that will do well:

How to Gardening With Dad

Chances are your Dad is the no-nonsense type who doesn’t like to waste time on things he doesn’t care about. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t like gardening, it means that digging, tilling, weeding, and watering are just chores that take him away from things he’d rather be doing. If you want to get him out in the garden, you should plant an easy care garden with rugged, sturdy plants that are drought, pest, and heat-tolerant and don’t need a lot of care and attention.

Dad’s Easy Care Garden

When your garden bed is ready, lay down a good quality weed barrier before you begin planting. This will ensure Dad doesn’t spend his free time pulling pesky weeds out of the garden, and it will earn you plenty of brownie points to use down the road.

How to make garden border from brick

How to make garden border from brick
Both concrete and brick pavers make a simple, handsome border and work well as edging material too. They're ideal when you want a wide border that keeps grass out of the garden, yet allows flowers and other plants to spill over without intruding onto the grass. You're less likely to chop them up with the lawn mower.
How To :
  • Step 1 : Lay out the edge of the border with a garden hose, using the brick pattern as a spacer. Make curves gradual and smooth.
  • Step 2 : Dig a 4-in. deep trench about an inch wider than the brick pattern, using a square spade. Cut the edge along the grass smooth and square.
  • Step 3 : Cut landscape fabric to fit the bottom and sides of the trench and dump in about 2 in. of sand. Smooth and flatten the sand with a block of wood.
  • Step 4 : Set the bricks tightly together so the tops and front edges are even and about 1/2 in. above the soil. Sweep sand into gaps and pack soil against the backside

How To Sprouting Green Lentils

How To Sprouting Green Lentils

Lentils help cleanse and stimulate the kidneys and adrenal system, strengthen the heart and circulation and boost energy and vitality. When lentils are germinated, their nourishment become more easily digestible, and after just 3-4 days of sprouting, their soluble fiber, which helps lower LDL cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar and regulate insulin levels, increases 300 percent!

First you’ll need to measure about a cup of lentils and inspect them for stones. Then rinse them really well in cool water and place them in a large bowl of water to soak overnight 8-12 hours. The next morning. You can strain out the excess water, rinse and strain again and then transfer the seeds into a large jar, filling it no more than 1/3 of the way with seeds so that there’s adequate space for growth.

Now, cover the opening of the jar with some cheesecloth and hold it in place with a snug rubber band. For the next few days all you’ll have to do is rinse the seeds with fresh water by filling the jar and draining through the cheesecloth twice a day. If you start to notice any slime, just give a few extra rinses and get it all out.

Keep giving them the fresh rinses + draining for 4-5 days. Once that green leaf pokes out and starts to unfold, they’re ready to harvest. You can use this process to sprout many other seeds and beans (alfalfa, clover, mung, garbanzo, lentil, sunflower).
